My name is Ruben Calo, and I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina with my wife Aurora. I've been a full time knifemaker since 1993.
I've been smoking pipes for over 32 years, and I've enjoyed several kinds of tobacco in several kinds of pipes.
In mid 2008, as I was making a folding knife, I thought about making a pipe for myself, so I grabbed a piece of olive wood from my stock of woods for knife handles and got to work on it.
To my surprise, the finished pipe smoked really nice, so it encouraged me to make more pipes in different woods and even one in axis deer stag.
A couple of months later, I got two good briar pieces, which I promptly transformed into two pipes that I added to my collection.
Finally, in December 2008, I managed to get a decent ammount of briar pieces as well as stems and I decided to make more pipes. I'll be making some standard shaped ones, but I'll make freehand pipes the most. |
